# MPU-6050 Motion Sensor

> GS007 MPU-6050 motion sensor board pinout, 3.3 V I²C connections, address jumper, and first-use checks.

The **GS007 MPU-6050** board exposes a six-axis motion sensor through a 3.3 V I²C bus. It has two parallel four-pin JST connectors for chaining on the same bus and an eight-pin header for additional sensor signals.

## Key features

* MPU-6050 sensor (`U1`) in a 24-pin QFN package.
* Board outline **25.44 × 22.86 mm**, with **1.59 mm** nominal PCB thickness in the KiCad file.
* Two parallel four-pin I²C connectors, `J2` and `J3`.
* Eight-pin, 2.54 mm header `J1` exposing I²C, `AD0/SD0`, `CLKIN`, `INT`, and `FSYNC`.
* Onboard 4.7 kΩ pull-ups from SDA and SCL to `+3.3V`.

## Pin configuration

`J2` and `J3` have the **same connections**. They are two access points to one I²C bus, not separate channels.

| Pin on `J2` or `J3` | Signal | Use |
| :- | :- | :- |
| 1 | `GND` | Ground |
| 2 | `+3.3V` | Board supply |
| 3 | `SDA` | I²C data |
| 4 | `SCL` | I²C clock |

The eight-pin header `J1` adds the sensor control signals. Numbers are **PCB pad numbers**; use the board's pin-1 mark for physical orientation.

| `J1` pin | Signal | Use |
| :- | :- | :- |
| 1 | `+3.3V` | Board supply |
| 2 | `GND` | Ground |
| 3 | `SDA` | I²C data |
| 4 | `SCL` | I²C clock |
| 5 | `AD0/SD0` | Board label for the I²C address-select pin |
| 6 | `CLKIN` | External clock input |
| 7 | `INT` | Interrupt output |
| 8 | `FSYNC` | Frame synchronization input |

> [!WARNING]
>
> This board has **no 5 V regulator or I²C level shifter**. Supply the `+3.3V` pin from a suitable 3.3 V source and use a 3.3 V I²C host or verified level shifting. The onboard bus pull-ups connect SDA and SCL to `+3.3V`.

## Solder jumpers and I²C address

All three solder-jumper footprints are marked **open** in the KiCad design. Confirm their actual state on the assembled board.

| Jumper | Pad 1 | Pad 2 | When bridged |
| :- | :- | :- | :- |
| `JP1` | `FSYNC` | `GND` | Pulls FSYNC low |
| `JP2` | `+3.3V` | `AD0/SD0` | Pulls AD0/SD0 high |
| `JP3` | `CLKIN` | `GND` | Pulls CLKIN low |

> [!NOTE]
>
> The [MPU-6050 product specification](https://invensense.tdk.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/MPU-6000-Datasheet.pdf) defines 7-bit I²C address `0x68` when AD0 is low and `0x69` when AD0 is high. With `JP2` open, this board design shows **no populated pull-up or pull-down** on `AD0/SD0`, so it does not establish a reliable default address. Set or verify the AD0 connection first, then scan the I²C bus. `FSYNC` and `CLKIN` are also exposed when their jumpers are open; drive or configure them according to the sensor datasheet and application.

## Connect to a Glyph board

1. Power both boards off. Connect GS007 `GND`, `+3.3V`, `SDA`, and `SCL` to the corresponding 3.3 V I²C pins on the Glyph board, using either `J2`, `J3`, or `J1`.
2. Inspect `JP2` and establish a defined `AD0/SD0` level before expecting reliable address detection.
3. Power the boards and run the [I²C scanner](https://learn.pcbcupid.com/guides/i2c-scan-test.md) to find the address actually selected by the assembled board.
4. Configure the sensor's measurement range, filtering, sample rate, and calibration in the host application.

The KiCad files do not establish measured current draw, a reliable address with `JP2` open, or a tested calibration.
